Title: Boyarinya bearing a tray
Artist: Pashinina Lubov
Size: 6.5x8x2.5
Size (inches): 2.5x3.25x1
Price : $1400 SOLD!

Renowned Fedoskino painter Pashinina Lubov has crafted this exquisite portrait of a young Girl in traditional Russian attire.
This portrait is a version of the famous painting "Boyarinya bearing a tray" painted by Konstantin Makovskiy. Works dedicated to a peasant way of life were very popular in 19th century in Russia. The world-famous Russian painters Tropinin, Argunov, Alexeev and many others created their masterpieces on this theme. And this box is a splendid example of how Russian lacquer miniature artists are able to bring hand-painted masterpieces into common people's homes.
This Girl is wearing a kokoshnik, or traditional Russian head dress. These kokoshniks were very ornamental, and originally were worn only by married women. The girl is also wearing a traditional white shirt underneath her sarafan, which is the sleeveless dress. Both practical and decorative, the traditional costume is very unique to Russian culture, and many fine examples of kokoshniks and sarafans are displayed in museums throughout Russia. The girl also wears the luxurious necklace designed in the eastern style and decorated with precious stones. The necklace, the kokoshnik and the pendant earrings depicted here are typical jewels for Russia of 15th-16th centuries.
The portrait is highly detailed and very accurate. Photo-like quality! Amazing details...superb...
Golden paint is used to accentuate richness of the boyaryshnya's costume.
The portrait is framed with a gold line. The sides of the box are wraped with the gold lines too, and the edge of the lid is framed with a gold line. The interior is partly painted with dark green metal base colour.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge from the left of the scene, and rests on flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist name, 1996 and Fedoskino.
