Description:

Palekh artist Ludmila Malinkina from the village of Palekh has painted this composition based on well-known Fairy-tale "The Hump Backed Little Pony".
The artist has finished Palekh Art School in 1948.
The scene shows a recognizible moment of story. On this composition we can see Ivan trying to catch Frebird, but getting only a feather of Firebird.
In the beginning of the story Ivan caught the magic mare that trampled down wheat on his father's field. This mare promised Ivan to present three foals in exchange for freedom. Later two of these foals turned into the steeds with golden manes depicted here, and the third one turned into the Humpbacked Little Pony.
Then Ivan has brought two steed to show to the Tsar. On this scene Ivan holds the golden feather of a firebird that later becomes the reason of his first errand: he'll be obliged to catch the firebird for the old, greedy tsar.
And in the end of the story, when Ivan have to jump in there barrels/jars and became handsome fellow, but later when the Tsar jumped in the boiled water, he just bolied in it...
The entire surface of the box is filled with wondrous details. Gold paint is used to aid in the adding of the detail. The use of gold helps to enhance the already bold palette and bring out their true highlights!
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The edges of the lid and its sides are decorated with beautiful gold patterns. The exterior of the box is painted with black lacquer while the interior is completed with red lacquer.
The lid is not hinged and the box rests flat. The work is signed with the artist's name, number of the box #2093 date and the village of Palekh.
