Description:

This beautiful summer landscape was created by Fedoskino artist B.M. Morozov. The composition shows the bank of a small river bordered by thick forest. The burning sun throws its ray on the grassy bank, the crowns of trees and the glassy surface of the river. Everything around is flooded with the bright golden sunlight. The painting is filled with a sense of the magnificent wild nature of the Russian North.
Earth tones dominate this painting with colors raging from forest green to olive and from brown to bright yellow. The scene is given brightness with lists of metallic gold foil inlayed in the grassy area. Aluminum powder helps to create the mirror-like surface of the river that reflects the sky and the trees. The application of gold foil and aluminum powder cause the landscape to come alive, it is as real as if you were look at photograph. Aerial space and light are rendered by means of tone painting. The leaves and foliage in the trees are painted with by dabbing paint to blur and give the appearance that there are a great amount of leaves in the painted area. Gold dust seems to have been sprinkled in certain parts of the composition to add an almost unnoticeable sparkle to the piece.
Art often contains depth and perspective. This piece is a true lesson on the fascinating ability to create multiple dimensions on a flat surface. The painting is notable for clear composition, subtle graphic technique and rich coloring.
Almost all surface of the box's sides is covered with skillfully executed, intricate gold patterns. These patterns resemble a wide band that consists of a multitude of twisted, thin patterns. Gold beading runs parallel to this band of patterns. The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition, and the box rests flat. The Fedoskino "troika" insignia can be found on the interior of the lid. The box is signed with the artist's name, village and year (2003).
