Description:

This charming box has been painted by Kosheleva M. from Fedoskino. It shows three peasants returning home from a fair. They sit in the cart pulling by three horses. The horses move slowly, the peasants talk, discussing the results of their trade in the fair. Such scenes, depicting peasants, their daily life, feasts, and traditions were very popular during the Vishnyakov and Lukutin era.
The scene is painted in bright red, blue, green and white tones against the black background. The horses are very well drawn. Each one has been given its own personality. The characters are drawn naturally; their gestures, friendly embraces, pleased faces convey the free and easy atmosphere of a friendly chat.
A brown and beige tartan pattern framed with gold lines can be found on all four exterior side panels of the box. The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The box has a hinge from the top of the composition and rests on a flat bottom. The Fedoskino "troika" insignia can be found on the interior of the lid. The box is signed with the artist's name, village and year (1995).
