Description:

This peaceful scene was painted by V. Varov from the village of Fedoskino. It shows a typical landscape of Russian countryside. A small path runs through the forest and disappears in its thickets. The scene is painted in different shades of green and brown. To create the depth of the sky, the artist has painted it over a layer of aluminum powder. Gold powder highlights some of the trees, and creates brilliance of dry grass in the sun.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The edges of the lid and the sides of the box are decorated with elegant gold patterns. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition, and the box rests flat. The Fedoskino "troika" insignia can be found on the interior of the lid. The box is signed with the artist's name, the village of Fedoskino, and the year (1996).
