This delightful piece of authentic Russian artistry was created by the talented Dokuchaeva from the village of Fedoskino. An enticing blend of color and design help to enliven this radiant piece. Fairy-tale friendly.
The piece shows a girl offering apples to a handsome lad. It's obvious that they like each other and may be at this moment a true love is born!
The color treatment of the work is extremely radiant. A wonderful blend of green, yellow, brown, peach, red, and dark orange tones. These colors are immediately brought to life through the artist's use of aluminum powder and gold foil. This is primarily evident in the clothing of the two characters.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. A swerving pattern of bright golden scrollwork can be found on the four sides of the box. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The Fedoskino insignia can be found on the interior of the lid. A hinge is fastened to the left of the composition, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed by the artist.
