This beautiful landscape was created in the village of Fedoskino by Butsinskiy, but the box is signed only with his initials. The artist has been able to depict the thrilling state of nature, a sudden change of seasons. The first snow has fallen covering the ground and crowns of the trees with a fluffy layer. Somewhere dry, orange grass peeps out of the deep snowdrifts. The surface of the small river reflects the sun rays that are still warm.
Two pieces of mother-of-pearl are inlaid in the different parts of the composition. One of them is inlaid in the portion of the river to create the realistic effect of sunrays' reflection on the water, while another one is inlaid in the portion of the hill depicted on the left, behind the house, creating the beautiful effect golden foliage brilliance. The brilliance of foliage and dry grass is also strengthened with the help of gold metal powder.
Elegant gold patterns decorate the edges of the lid. The same patterns but a little bigger in size wrap around the box's sides.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the scene while red lacquer completes the interior of the piece. The box is hinged from the top of the composition and rests on four legs.
