The talented Dunaev from the village of Fedoskino is the creator of this oval box. Here he has realistically reproduced the atmosphere of an early morning. The sunrise paints the sky with a warm golden glow. The meadow and the far-away forest are fogged. There is not a sound to be heard, and even the birds are still silent.
The palette used by the artist is a reflection for the time of year depicted here. Earth tones make up the majority of the colors to convey the idea of summer. To supplement the beauty of the composition the artist employs the use of mother-of-pearl. The mother-of-pearl is what makes this piece as striking as it is. It is inlaid in the middle portion of the sky.
The scene is framed with a gold line.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the top of the composition. The box rests on a flat bottom. It is signed and dated (2005) by the artist at the bottom of the composition.
