This summer landscape painted in the realistic style is the creation of Dunaev from the village of Fedoskino. Here the artist has tried to reflect the state of nature before the beginning of thundershower. Dark ominous clouds covered the sky, ready to engulf it in the rain. The strong wind blows violently, swinging mighty trees with luxuriant crowns and green grass. The smooth surface of the twisting river reflects the flashes of lightning. Somewhere far off, behind the horizon, the heavy shower has already began.
The composition is executed scrupulously, with all the details of the landscape faithfully reproduced. The leaves and foliage in the trees are painted with by dabbing paint to blur and give the appearance that there are a great amount of leaves in the painted area.
The colors taken from the palette are very natural and realistic. Dark and light green tones predominate here. Mother-of-pearl is inlaid in the portion of the sky and in the portion of the river.
The scene is framed with tiny gold beads.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid isn't hinged. The box rests on a flat bottom. It is signed and dated (2006) by the artist at the bottom of the composition in light brown oil paints.
