Description:

This wonderful box has been painted by Fedoskino artist A. Gaiduk. It shows a bird's-eye view of the Moscow Kremlin. White-stoned, golden domed cathedrals and red-bricked towers rise above the roofs of small stoned houses situated outside the Moscow Kremlin's wall. Tiny people walk along the street leading to the Kremlin, this creates a sense of natural scale. This is a panorama of pre-revolutionary Moscow as the names of the shops are written with the type that doesn't exist in modern Russian language, and the depicted street is too desolate for present-day Moscow with its heavy traffic.
The scene is painted in various shades of brown with addition of light blue and green tones. Gold paint is used to highlight the roofs of houses. There is a strict sense of realism and attention to detail here.
The scene is framed with a gold line, while two parallel gold lines decorate the box's sides.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged at top, and the box rests on legs. The work is signed with the artist's name and the title ("The View of Kremlin") at the bottom of the scene.
