Description:

This box is a creation of Gaiduk from the village of Fedoskino. It shows a view of old, pre-revolutionary Moscow. The main focus of the composition is the typical Russian Orthodox church. To the right from the church there is a wooden two-storied house; at present only several similar buildings are preserved in modern Moscow. Two tiny gentlemen walk along the cobblestone road; they are drawn to create a sense of natural scale.
The composition is painted in grey-bluish tones with addition of oranges to reproduce the autumn season. Aluminum paint has been mixed with oils to create brilliance of the church's roof, the fence, the wooden house and the cobblestone road.
The composition is framed with a gold line, while two parallel gold lines decorate the box's sides.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the left, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name and the title ("Moscow") at the bottom of the composition.
