This picturesque winter scene has been painted by Yuliya Golubyonkova from Fedoskino. The village street, the roofs of the peasant houses and faraway fields are covered with deep snowdrifts. The fluffy snow-covered tops of trees look so beautiful! Red breasted bullfinches sit on the bush painted in the foreground. Appearance of these winter birds in Russian countryside is a sign of forthcoming winter. The street is desolate as it's frosty; nevertheless two woman dared to go outdoors to have a talk and feed their horses.
The scene is realistically painted. It is achieved by the play of light and shade, and perfect blending of white and blue tones.
The scene is framed with a gold line, while the box's sides are adorned with two parallel gold lines.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. A hinge is fastened to the top of the composition, and the box rests on legs. The work is signed by the artist.
