Description:

Dmitry Tipyakov, the son of well-known Fedoskino artist Tatyana Tipyakova, inherited his mother's artistic talent. His works are easily recognizable as this artist has his peculiar painting style and always chooses interesting themes for his creations. He is enchanted with the beauty of night sky studded with myriads of shining stars and planets, and created a series of works on this theme. This is his another box from this series.
The box depicts a small Russian village illuminated by the starlit. It's possible to see such a beautiful scene only in the countryside, far off big cities. The artist intentionally painted some of the planets bigger than we can see from the Earth. He did it to accentuate the real size of stars and planets, and also to express his philosophic idea that the Earth is one of the countless number planets that fill the boundless universe.
The scene is painted in dark tones as the action takes place at night. Predominance is given to blues and browns. The black background helps to reproduce the illusion of night sky. Gold paint highlights the tree and the peasant house painted in the foreground, and also some of the planets.
The composition is framed with a gold line; the box's sides are decorated with two parallel gold lines.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the top of the composition, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed, titled ("The Star Rain") and dated (2006) by the artist.
