This attractive seascape is a creation of the famous Fedoskino artist Alexey Valyalin. In his youth he served in the navy, and this fact may explain his love towards the sea and ships.
The scene is brilliantly painted in the realistic style. Silver scan patterns composed of tiny beads hand punched from silver metal sheets, and glued to the box manually decorate the edges of the lid and the box's sides. The black lacquered surface of the box is covered with blue blurry spots to imitate coloring of black marble. The interior is traditionally red.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. It has a hinge from the top of the scene, and rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name and the village of Fedoskino. Delightful work with a fascinating atmosphere.
