This gorgeous box continues a series of female portraits painted by Dokuchaeva. Here she depicts an elegant lady, a contemporary of Alexander Pushkin. Dressed in the luxuriant off-the-shoulder dress, she looks at the viewer with her deep brown eyes.
The portrait painted here is a masterful depiction of an oil on canvas painting composed in the later half of the 19th Century. This era was renown for it's classic renditions done in portrait and sculpture form.
The scene is framed with a gold line. The box's sides are adorned with two parallel gold lines.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the left of the portrait, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name.
