This attractive marine scene has been painted by Belov from the village of Fedoskino. Here we can see the Russian frigate struggling through the huge oceanic waves.
Belov has done a nice job with the highlights and shadows on the frigate adding an almost photographic realism to this part of the work. Mother-of-pearl shines brightly through the white sails that look so beautiful against the blue-grey sky, and the sea-green waves.
The box's exterior imitates coloring of a stone (light blue veins are scattered against the dark blue background) while the interior is traditionally red. The lid and the sides are adorned with intricate gold ornaments.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino and the year of 2007. This well-done marine scene has a classic, timeless quality of painting! Fine work!
