Description:

This beautiful Fedoskino box has been painted by Frolova Tatyana. It shows a scene from Pushkin's fairy-tale “Ruslan and Ludmila”. Here we can see the evil dwarf magician Chernomor kidnapping Lyudmila, and carrying her to his kingdom. The figure of Chernomor and especially his beard shine brightly in the darkness of a night; this effect has been achieved with the help of gold powder. A piece of mother-of-pearl creates brilliance of Lyudmila's sarafan. Gold paint is used to detail the costumes of the characters, and to paint the stars that shimmer in the night.
The scene is framed with a gold line; two parallel gold lines wrap around the box's sides.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge from the left of the scene, and rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino, and the year of 2007.
