This attractive box is one more work from Medvedeva's “The Wild Bird Series” that depicts birds in their native habitats. Here we can see a couple of pheasants drinking water the forest pond. The identifying characteristics of the birds are meticulously reproduced.
The scene is painted in blue tones against the delicate peach background. Aluminum powder is used as an underlayer for the oils to create a sparkle of the pond. The edges of the lid and the box's sides are decorated with elegant gold ornaments.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, and the year of 2008.
