Description:

This splendid box is a creation of Dokuchaeva from the village of Fedoskino. Here the artist has chosen to create the copy of oil painting "Dawn" or "L'Aurore" drawn by William Bouguereau (1825-1905), the French Academic Classical painter, frescoist, draftsman and teacher. Painted in the Neo-Classical style, this masterpiece is exhibited in the Birmingham Museum of Art, in Alabama.
This scene is painted very close to the original. Light blue oils predominate here.
A gold line is used to frame the scene; the box's sides are decorated with two parallel gold lines.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name.
