Description:

This splendidly painted scene of a marine battle is a creation of Galina Davydova from the village of Fedoskino. This is a brilliant interpretation of a canvas-on-oil painting “Landing in Subashi” originally painted by Ivan Aivazovsky (1817 - 1900). Painted in the 1880s, this masterpiece is exhibited in the Art Gallery named after Ivan Aivazovsky situated in the town of Feodosia, Ukraine.
Dark blue and grey tones predominate here as the action takes place at night. A large piece of gold metal leaf is set into the background to create a radiance of the sunset in the sky. The scene is painted very close to the original.
The scene is framed with a gold line; two parallel gold lines decorate the box's sides. The box's exterior is covered with light grey lacquer whereas its interior is traditionally covered with red lacquer.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the year of 2009 and the village of Fedoskino.
