Description:

This nice box created by the talented Fedoskino artist, Govorun, shows Pinocchio who is a fictional character that first appeared in 1883, in “The Adventures of Pinocchio” by Carlo Collodi. Since then the tale has appeared in many adaptations, including the famous novel “The Adventures of Buratino” by Alexey Tolstoy.
Pinocchio is a mischievous, wooden puppet who dreams of becoming a real boy. He is known for having a long nose that becomes longer when he is under stress, especially while telling a lie. In this scene we can see Pinocchio's conversation with the Fox and the Cat in the tavern. Brow tones of oils predominate here. The characters are very well painted and that is why they are easily recognizable. The interior of the tavern help the artist to express the plot of the tale more vividly.
The scene is framed with a gold line; the box's sides are decorated with two parallel gold lines.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title (“Pinocchio”) and the village of Fedoskino.
