Description:

The famous portrait "Girl with a Pot of Roses" inspired the experienced Fedoskino portrait painter, Alimpiada Dokuchaeva, to create this box. Originally painted in 1850 by the outstanding Russian painter, Vasily Tropinin (1780- 1857), this masterpiece is exhibited in the V.A. Ttropinin Museum.
Vasily Andreevich Tropinin was a Russian Romantic painter. Much of his life was spent as a serf; he didn't attain his freedom until he was more than forty years old. Three of his more important works are a portrait of Alexander Pushkin and paintings called "The Lace Maker" and "The Gold-Embroideress".
The outer edge of the lid is painted with a fine band of gold paint. The base of the box has two lines done in gold painted parallel to each other, the bottom line slightly thicker than the other.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the left of the portrait, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name.
