Description:

Sergey Kirsanov from the village of Fedoskino is an expert in painting landscapes. In his works he doesn't exaggerate the modest beauty of Russian countryside, and finds a special charm in ramshackle peasant houses, small wooden churches, and dirty village roads. This demonstrates his sincere love to his native land.
Here the artist depicts the view of a Russian Forest. Beautiful summer day! The trees and grass are green.
Green, brown and gray tones suitable for reproduction of a beautiful summer evening predominate here. A large piece of mother-of-pearl is set into the whole area of the sky to create a pinkish glow of the sunset.
The scene is framed with so called "scan patterns" composed of tiny shapes hand punched from gold metal sheets and then painstakingly affixed by hand to the box.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Sides of the box are painted using the unique dye-resist method. The box is dipped into a mixture of colored oils, water, and paint thinner and then removed to create the marble-like design you see om a box.Traditional red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge from the top of the scene.
The box is signed by the artist.
