Description:

This box has been painted by the famous Fedoskino artist, Vladimir Rogatov. It shows the picturesque view of St. Basil's Cathedral. This gem of ancient Russian architecture was built by order of Ivan the Terrible in 1561 to commemorate to the victory over Kazan and Astrakhan Khanate. In front of the St. Basil's Cathedral you can see the monument to Minin and Pozharsky.
Rogatov has painted the architecture of the cathedral in dark grey tones of oils against the cream background. Cream tone has been also chosen to cover the box's exterior while the interior is traditionally covered with red lacquer. The box's sides are decorated with elegant tartan patterns painted in dark grey and green oils and outlined with gold. Gold is also used to decorate the edges of the box.
The box is made out of paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on four rounded legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, the year of 2010 and the village of Fedoskino.
