Description:

This marvelous marine scene is a creation of Dunaev from the village of Fedoskino. It is the artist's variation of the famous masterpiece "Sea. Kotebelnaya Bay" painted in 1853 by Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky (1817-1900). Although Dunaev has changed the original a little, the structure of the composition is the same.
Refined oil-painting techniques give this piece depth and life. The palette used is full of blue paints to convey the marine and aquatic environment within the composition. Yellow tones are used to paint the sunset that beautifully enlivens the composition. Great movement in the water is painted very naturally showing the seemingly random wave directions. Mother-of-pearl inlaid in the portion of the sky creates brilliance of the sun.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged at the top, and the box rests on a flat bottom. Signed and dated (2010) by Dunaev.
