This interesting box was painted by Fedoskino artist, Govorun Pavel. This piece has details, sparkling gold inlay and the ferocious beauty of the color combinations. This is a singular look into the world of Fedoskino lacquer miniature!
The box shows the forest witch, Baba-Yaga. Baba-Yaga's servant, the Black Cat is sitting on the the house. Since ancient times the white and black colors in Russia are associated with a phenomenon of the other world. And of course, this is a bad sign if a Black cat will cross your road in front of you. Baba-Yaga has a an Owl on her shoulder.
The scene is brilliantly painted in Govorun's style and elaborately detailed with shining silver and gold paint.
The scene is framed with a gold line. The box's sides are decorated with two gold parallel lines as well.
The box is made out of paper-mache.The exterior is covered with black lacquer and the interior is traditionally covered with red lacquer.The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests flat. The work is signed with the artist's name and Fedoskino.
