Description:

Komogorov Konstantin is the artist who painted this five-sided box.
On the front side the artist has chosen to depict a moment from the engaging tale of Marya Morevna. On the back side we can see Baba-Yaga, another major character of the tale.
In this tale Marya Morevna was kidnapped by Bad Macigian Koshchey the Deathless, and her husband, Ivan Tsarevich, sets out in search of her. Ivan understands that Koshchey the Deathless is a very strong magician, and asks the forest witch, Baba-Yaga, to give him a piece of good advice. With the help of Baba-Yaga Ivan defeats Koshchey and saves his beloved wife.
The colors are exceptionally bright and the palette is very diverse. The artist has managed to create an exquisite composition with ultra-fine detail, and good transitions between the scenes and sides. Gold paint is used to add further detail to the composition.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge and rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title and Fedoskino.
