This is a splendid original work of the talented Mstera Master, Nikolay Molodkin. Nikolay is the youngest in the family of renowned Mstera artists. He continues painting traditions of his father, Vladimir Molodkin, and brothers, Daniil and Denis. Nikolay is already working as a teacher in Mstera Art School!
The work is called “Hunting after the Unicorn”, and shows the medieval knights hunting after the unicorn. The beautiful lady rides the unicorn, and may be she but not the unicorn has attracted attention of the hunters.
Molodkin has perfectly combined shades of blue, brown and yellow to create a fairy-tale atmosphere. Shining gold paint enhances the quality of the existing palette, and strengthens the sensation of miracle.
The box's exterior is beautifully decorated. The edges of the lid decorated with the twisting gold pattern accompanied by a thread of tiny gold beads. The edges of the lid are adorned with intricate gold leafy patterns. On the box's sides Molodkin has painted the complex and very beautiful design using gold paint and bright tones of tempera pains. The rolling gold pattern can be found wrapping around the bottom part of the box's body.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the work while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on legs. The box is signed with the artist's name, Mstera, the title and the year of 2009.
