Description:

This interesting Mstera box is a creation of Natalie Staroverova. It shows a scene from the Russian fairy-tale "Frog Princess".
The composition shows a scene from the popular Russian fairy-tale "Princess Frog". A powerful Tsar noticed that it was time for his three sons to be wed. He summoned them all at once and told them to each fire a single arrow into the air. The closest maiden to each fallen arrow would become that son's wife. Ivan and his two brothers shoot arrows into the air to find their future brides. A frog catches Ivan's arrow and this is who he is obligated to marry.
The scene is painted in bright tempera paints. Brilliant gold paint is used to detail the figure of a Frog.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The exterior is decorated with rich and very beautiful gold and silver patterns. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Mstera and the title.
