This historical scene was painted by Palekh artist Elena Zakharova. Toown is Trits is located not far from Moscow and nowadays it became a terretory of so called New Moscow. The box shows a large fire that took a place in 1737.
The palette is based in oranges, greens and browns that dominate the scene. These three colors work especially well and deliver to the viewer a great amount of life and light. The scene is finely highlighted and detailed with aluminum and gold.
Gold and aluminum beading frames the composition, while the sides of the box are decorated with gold flower and leaf pattern ornaments.
The box is made out of paper-mache made in Palekh. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge from the top of the composition and rests flat. At the bottom of the composition the artist writes Palekh, 2014,title and signs his name.
