Description:

Yevgenia Shatokhina of Palekh is the artist who painted this beautiful. Yevgenia (or Zhenya for short, as she signs the piece) has a beautiful style that is classic Palekh, but at the same time exhibits a unique flair.
The painting is based on the popular story of, "The Sleeping Beauty." This story was originally put to pen by French writer Charles Perrault in 1696. The handsome prince has come to the enchanted Kingdom to destroy the evil spell and awake the princess by his sweet kiss.
Palekhs's characteristic black background allows the colors to be at their boldest and most vivacious. The detail is fine, precise, and is mostly added using gold and aluminum paints.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box's exterior is decorated with intricate gold ornaments accented with aluminum. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on four rounded feet. The work is signed with the artist's name, Palekh, and the year of 2006.
