Description:

This beautiful landscape was painted by the very well known Fedoskino artist Victor Antonov, whose works are exhibited in numerous museums, including such famous museums as the Russian Museum (St. Petersburg), the Museum of folk art (Moscow), and, certainly, the Fedoskino Museum. The composition shows cows crossing a small stream and drinking water. The background is rich in different details including the big tree with luxuriant crown, the church that keeps and blesses a small village, the shepherd with his dog, and a beautiful panorama of the recessive landscape. The artist creates the impression of a warm summer evening, and the stream, which reflects the blue sky covered with pink clouds. It looks quite inviting! The artist extends the foreground as if it were right in front of the viewer. The tiniest details are rendered with great subtlety to make the scene come alive. By placing the point of view into the immediate foreground the background vanishes into several points, which is a trick artists use to create depth through perspectives. The sky's depth is also amazing. Antonov is quite skillful here in creating a composition of subtle and quiet beauty, done in the traditions of the finest landscape painters.
The composition is framed with the elegant gold pattern. The sides of the box are decorated with abundant gold floral patterns. The box is made out of paper-mache. The lid isn't hinged and the box rests on a flat bottom. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The interior also includes the Fedoskino "troika" insignia stamped in orange paint on the roof of the lid. The box is signed with the artist's name, village, and year (2001).
