Description: This interesting work of Pavel Govorun shows Baba-Yaga flying on the cracked mortar through dark forest. Baba Yaga has been painted countless times by artists who redefine her image in creative and imaginative ways. Baba Yaga here looks very scary with her two canine teeth and slovenly hair.
Baba-Yaga is the oldest character of the Slavonic mythology. Originally Baba-Yaga was the goddess of death; people imagined her as a woman with the snake tail who guarded the entrance into the other world and accompanied the souls of dead people into the Kingdom of the Dead.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the left of the composition and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name and Fedoskino.
