Alexander Mitusov from the village of Fedoskino is known as a talented landscape and architecture painter. Looking at this scene we can say that the author has a feeling of deep love to his native land with its ramshackle peasant houses, small wooden churches, and evergreen forests...
This box shows a small wooden church situated in the edge of the forest on a bank of a river. Grey,blue and green tones are used here to reproduce the atmosphere of the end of summer. The grass is not as green as in Spring time, the field on the back is already yellow...the river is flowing very slowly... the birds in the sky are started their trip to the south...
The box's exterior is painted black.The scene is framed with a scan pattern as well as the box's sides are decorated with silver scan patterns. Scan are individual silver punch-outs that are applied to the box during the drying process of the lacquer. The interior of the box is traditionally covered with red lacquer.
The box is made out of paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name.
