Description: Sergey Kirsanov from the village of Fedoskino is an expert in painting landscapes. In his works he doesn't exaggerate the modest beauty of Russian countryside, and finds a special charm in ramshackle peasant houses, small wooden churches, and dirty village roads. This demonstrates his sincere love to his native land.
Here the artist depicts the view of neglected woden churches in a Russian village. The churches became useless during the Soviet Union epoch when many churches and cathedrals were closed as the Soviet regime tried to eradicate religion.
White, blue and brown tones suitable for reproduction of a dull winter day are predominated here. A large piece of mother-of-pearl is set into the whole area of the sky to create a pinkish glow.
The scene is framed with a gold line. Two parallel gold lines are decorated the sides of the box. The sides also partly decorated with a mixture of black and gray oils, that imitates a color of stone.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge from the top of the scene, and rests on a wavy platform with the six feet. The work is signed with the artist name.
