Description:

Buiko Konstantine is the talented Fedoskino artist who has painted this impressive view of the Kolomenskoe Village.
Kolomenskoe is located about 10 kilometers southeast of the Kremlin in Moscow. It covers an area of about 390 hectares and beautifully set in a natural park full of ancient trees. The first document to have mentioned the village of Kolomenskoe is dated 1339, during the reign of Ivan Kalita. It's name dates from the thirteenth century when villagers from the town of Kolomna settled there after fleeing the onslaught of the hordes led by Khan Batu. In the fifteenth century, the property was owned by the Grand Duke of Moscow, and became the royal summer residence.
Light blue tones of oils suitable for reproduction of a winter scene dominate here. Gold paint is used to detail the architecture, and create brilliance of the trees painted in the foreground. A shinning piece of mother-of-pearl is set into each cathedral painted in the foreground (only the tall cathedral painted in far background is left without mother-of-pearl inlay). The scene is framed with two parallel gold lines; two parallel gold lines accompanied by gold filigree designs can be also found wrapping around the box sides.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. A hinge has been fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the village of Fedoskino, tthe tittle and the year of 2007.
