The dark brown background creates the effect of a room illuminated by a light from a window and also allows the girl's costume painted in light tones to be the sole focus of attention. Delicate brushwork details her face. Her features are drawn clearly, with soft skin and a faint blush on her cheeks. A truly human composition!
The box is constructed from paper-mache and rests on a flat bottom. A hinge is fastened at the left. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. Signed by the artist at the bottom of the portrait.
