Description: This festive box is a real specimen of traditional Fedoskino artistry! The box is painted by a well-known Master, Boris Shavirin.
It features the lad playing the balalayka, anther lad and a pretty girl are dancing at the village street. In old times the lad who could play balalayka was one of the popular young man in the Russian village. Girls dreamt to have a date with him, lads respected him. Singing and dancing to the accompaniment of accordion and balalayka were the only available amusements then.
The scenes like this one, depicting peasants and village people, their daily life, feasts, and traditions were very popular during the Vishnyakov and Lukutin era.
Several pieces of mother-of-pearl are shining through the painting: the clothes of the girls are painted over the green color mother-of-pearl, as well as we can find one piece under the dress of the lad. The clothes and dresses of the girls and lds are richly decorated with the golden paint!
The scene is framed with a gold band. The box's sides are adorned with a rich pattern painted in gold.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged to the top of the composition, and the box rests on the four legs.
Signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino and the year of 2021.
