Description: This original composition was painted by a famous Fedoskino Master, Marie Wagner.
She has crafted elegance within fantasy, fine portraits of characters from a well-known tale, Cinderella.
The sentimental tale of, "Cinderella", or "Zolushka" (it is the Russian version of the tale) tells about the poor and hard working girl who is rewarded in the end of the story for her kind heart and love to labour. The handsome Prince propose to marry her, and she becomes the Princess.
The lid of the box is showing us a moment of the fairy tale when the prince began to look for the girl he fell in love with at the ball, but who had to leave him at midnight. Now the prince is trying on the crystal slipper lost by this girl to all the girls and women of a Kingdom.
Sides of the box are also painted by the artist. She has depicted the moments of the story when Cinderella's godmother, a kind fairy, presents the girl the ball-dress, the crystal shoes and the golden carriage. Now Cinderella is ready to attend a royal ball, but she doesn't know that this ball is organized to help the Prince to choose a bride. No doubt, it was Cinderella dressed in the rich elegant dress, and the happy end of the story approaches.
The composition is very delight. Each of human figures has an individual look, and it is evident that the artist spent much time and focused painstaking efforts on working out each gesture, each trait of the face, and each minute detail of the costume!!!
The palette and the style of Marie Wagner are quite unique and easy to recognize! Red, green and blue colours are vivid and bright, they create the focal points in the scene.
Aluminum powder combined with the oil paints gives a luminescent quality to the clothing, the buildings in the background.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The exterior of the box is painted with black lacquer while the interior is completed with dark red lacquer. A hinge is fastened to the top of the box. The box rests on a four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name and village of Fedoskino.
