Description: With imagination and skill combined, famous Fedoskino artist Vladislav Maslov has created this stunning box that exemplifies the idea of the hidden treasure. It does so with abundant detail and the ferocious beauty of the color combinations and mother-of-pearl inlay!
The box's lid shows the major characters from Russian fairy-tale "Ivan Tsarevich and a Grey Wolf" .
This story tells about the adventures of the Prince Ivan Tsarevich and his companion the Grey Wolf, a magician. After the wolf ate Ivan's horse, they became partners in crime. The wolf felt sorry for Ivan, and he helped him in his quest to get Elena to be his bride. The Gray Wolf even helps Ivan when his brothers murder him and throw his remains in a bucket, out to sea. When the wolf gets the waters of life and death, Ivan is able to be alive again and go back to avenge his brothers. It is only then that Elena is able to marry the man she truly loves. Who knows if this would have happened if the Gray Wolf would not have been hungry the day Ivan's horse crossed its path.
On the foreground we can see a Gray Wolf, to the left- Ivan and Elena the Beautiful are riding the horse, while behind the Wolf we can see Bab Yaga and her Hut.
The Moon is painted over the piece of mother-of-pearl over the roof of the Hut of Baba Yaga.
Maslov is an expert in the decoration, so the scene is full of flowers that make up an elegant ornament. The sides of the box are painted in different colors, resembling a chameleon colors transition.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge and rests flat. The work is signed with the artist's name and title.
