Description: This beautiful piece of genuine Russian artistry was composed by the creative Rogatov Dmitriy from the village of Fedoskino.
This item is a casket with five painted sides.
The sentimental tale of, "Cinderella", or "Zolushka" (it is the Russian version of the tale) tells about the poor and hard working girl who is rewarded in the end of the story for her kind heart and love to labor. The handsome Prince proposes marriage to her, and she becomes the Princess.
On the lid of the casket we can see a poor girl, working all the time at the kitchen, wearing an old and simple cloth, scrubbing a large cauldron of soot.
On the front side of the casket the artist has depicted the very beginning of the story when Cinderella's godmother, a kind fairy, blessing her and presents the girl the ball-dress, the crystal shoes and the golden carriage. Everything should appear just in a moment! But for now it is only turnip as a carriage, six mice as horses and a rat as a coachman.
Now Cinderella is ready to attend a royal ball, but she doesn't know that this ball is organized to help the Prince to choose a bride. No doubt, it was Cinderella dressed in the rich elegant dress, and the happy end of the story approaches.
On the left hand side of the casket we can see how Prince is trying on a crystal shoe on the foot of Cinderella. On the right side- Prince and Cinderella are fall in love and are together.
On the back side we can see a moment of few minutes to the Midnight, when the ball-dress, the crystal shoes and the golden carriage will be turned again to turnip, mice and old dress... So, Cinderella must run from a ball.
The composition is an utter delight. Each of the figures has an individual look, and it is evident that the artist spent much time and focused painstaking efforts on working out each gesture, each trait of the face, and each minute detail of the costume!
The scene is painted in bright oil paints against the darker back ground to create a festal mood.
Each composition- on a lid and on the sides is decorated with a gold line on the edges.
The box was made from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the top of the painting on the lid, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name and 2013 at the bottom of the painting on the lid.
