Size: 22.5x15.5x6.5
Size (inches): 8.75x6x2.5
Price: $450 $360

This quite large box showing a scene form popular Russian Fairy Tale "Morozko" was painted by a talented Kholui artist Olga Kosterina.
The Fairy-tale tells about a little girl who was sent to the forest on a bitterly cold night by her cruel stepmother. The stepmother intends to kill the girl because she is more beautiful and hard working than her own daughter.
Here we can see the girl sits under the tree till Father Frost finds her. He blows at her with his frost breathing, but in spite of her suffering, the girl greets him politely and does not complain about her condition. Father Frost likes the girl for her kind heart, and rewards her with a treasure chest!
The end of the tale is happy; the girl was saved by her father and rewarded, while her stepmother and stepsister were punished.
On this composition we can see a girl in the winter forest, with a coat on her shoulders covered by Father Frost and the chest full of treasures, that a girl was awarded. Her father finally found her in night winter forest...
The work is a good example of Kholui art. The blue colors become electric, the reds, greens and whites passionate. Thin gold and silver accents have been used extensively throughout the composition adding rich luminescence and delicacy to the piece! The sides of the box are richly decorated with gold ornament! On the front side of the box we can see two bunnies in the winter forest.
The box is made of paper-mache. The interior of the box is red, while the exterior of the box is covered with back lacquer. The lid is hinged at the top of the composition, and the box rests flat.
The work is signed with the artist's name, the village of Kholui and the title ("Morozko").
