This box showing winter troika was painted in 1960s by a talented Kholui artist Vladimir Kurganov.
This theme is traditional for Russian lacquer miniature art.
The driver sits together with his lady in the sleigh and shouts encouragement to his steeds, hundreds of snowflakes are rising from the hoofs of the horses!
The scene is painted with red, yellow,green and orange colors against the black background.
The painting is framed with a simple scrolling ornamentation.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. The interior of the box is red, while the exterior bottom are covered with back lacquer. The lid is hinged, and the box rests flat. The work is signed with the artist's name, the village of Kholui and the title "Troika".
Please note: the box is NOT new, used, the lacquer (espetially inside) is not polished, or looks like not...
