This brilliant example of Russian Lacquer Art has been painted by a talented Kholui artist Kozhemyakina Irina. The box shows several falconers on the horses preparing for a hunt. In old Russia falconers had to supply game to the Tsar's court and got some benefits therefore.
Falconer's costumes,horse's harness and quivers for the arrows are richly decorated with gold paint.
The composition is framed with a rich floral pattern painted in gold. The edges of a lid are odorned with a golden dot ornamentation. The sides of the box are also decorated with rich floral pattern painted in gold.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work.
A hinge is fastened from the top of the composition, and the box rests on four small round feet. The work is signed with the artist's name, Kholui and the title- Royal hunt.
