Talented Dobrin Yevgeniy of Kholui is the artist who painted this traditional composition. Dobrin is a well-known artist whose style is enhanced by the ultra-thin brushwork he manages to render. The box shows traditional theme from the Russian real life in the 19th Centuary. Here we can see a winter troika (three horses sleigh) speeding through the Russian countryside. A loving couple hide from the snowstorm in the sleigh while a driver encourages the horses.
The composition is painted in the unique Dobrin's style. Gold paint is used to enhance the already intricate detailing and bring out the true power of the palette. Here the artist has managed to find place for several human figures, complex medieval architecture and detailed landscape that proves his talent of a skilled lacquer miniature painter!
Golden floral ornament frames around the lid's artistry. The box sides are decorated with intricate and complex gold and silver floral ornamentation.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. A hinge has been fastened to the top of the composition, and the box rests on four round legs. The artist has written the title, Kholui, 2015, and his name at the bottom of the composition. He has written the same on the interior of the lid.
