This small antique box with a tittle "At the Well" was painted by a talented Mstyora arist, Smirnov.
The subject is might be popular right after the World War II or during the war, when the soldier asking a pretty girl to give him some water.
The colours of the painting are bright and partly contrasting. reds, greens browns and blues are dominated here, conveying to us the mood of a warm summer evening. These colours are very traditional for Mstera style!
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The exterior of the box is painted with black lacquer while the interior is completed with red lacquer.
The edges of the lid are adorned with an intricate pattern painted in gold. A hinge is fastened to the top of the composition and the box rests flat.
The work is signed with the artist's name and Mstera. The title can be found over the composition.
Good condition (not exelent) for it's years. The painting has some craquelure.
