Description:

Kritova Galina of Palekh has painted this scene from the timeless fairy tale "Cinderella", or "Zolushka" (in the Russian version of the tale).
The sentimental fairy tale tells about the poor and hard working girl who is rewarded in the end of the story for her kind heart and love to labor. The handsome Princes proposes marriage to her, and she becomes the Princess. Here the artist has depicted the moment of the story when the Prince offers Zolushka to try on the crystal shoe in the hope of finding out who was that beautiful lady who danced with him the whole nightlong. No doubt, it was Cinderella dressed in the rich elegant dress, and the happy end of the story approaches.
Here we can see the Prince asking Cinderella to try on a crystal shoe. The loving couple is blessed by Cinderella's Godmother...
The palette for this piece contains a wide spectrum of bright and vivid colors. Gold paint, applied with extreme precision, details almost every aspect of the composition. The edges of the lid are decorated with a complex flower pattern painted in gold. Similar gold and silver rolling pattern can be found wrapping around the box's sides.
The box is constructed out of high-quality paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box and red lacquer is used to paint the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title, Palekh and the year of 2008.
