This peaceful scene has been painted by Olga Bonokina from the village of Palekh. This box shows a Shepherd Boy and his date.
In the center of this composition we can see a pair herding sheeps, grazing at the edge of the forest. Shepherd Boy is giving to a girl a flower. A girl have a basket full of berries on her other hand.
On the background we can see some villagers gone out of their homes and stroll in the woods, filling their baskets with ripe, mellow berries. Forests in Russia are rich in different gifts of nature. It's possible to find there all kind of forest berries such as the wild raspberry and strawberry, the whortle-berry, the cranberry and a large selection of mushrooms.
To the left we can see a a horse-drawn cart carrying hay.
The palette is based on earth tones that convey the sense of the rural atmosphere. Gold and aluminum paint details a majority of the scene, which makes the details bring the scene to life. The entire scene sparkles brightly with gold and aluminum.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid of the box and it's sides are decorated with rich and intricate gold ornaments.
A hinge is fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, title- "The shepherd Boy", Palekh, and the year of 2017.
