This unusual for the Palekh style composition was painted by the young talented artist Alexey Lapshin in 1998.
The work is called "The Firstborn" and showing the birth of a demon.
The color palette of the composition is typical for the style of Palekh painting. The characters are painted against the black background.
Gold beads decorates the edges of the lid, and the same ornamentation can be found on the sides of the box. The box is constructed out of paper-mache made. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior and red lacquer to paint the interior of the box. The box has a hinge to the left of the composition and rests flat.
The box has some painting and golden dot ornament on the exterior of the base of the box, where it is signed with the artist's name, village of Palekh and year (1998).
