Description:

This festive five-sided casket has been painted by a talented artist Yuliya Lyakh from the village of Palekh. The box's lid and all its four sides show the scenes from Russian folk fairy-tales!
On a lid we can see a Flying Carpet, where Ivan Tsarevich and Princess Elena are flying and carrying the Fire-Bird in a cage. On a back side- Ivan Tsarevich with his friend Gray wolf. On a right side-Ivan is catching a Fire-Bird. On a left side-Vasilisa the Beautiful with one of the riders. And on the front side- Prince Gvidon and Princess Swan from the tale of Tsar Saltan.
A broad spectrum of colors is used to create this highly detailed work. The background is traditionally for Palekh boxes painted in black color. Gold paint and aluminum paints are used to enhance the life and brightness of the scenes.
The composition on the lid is framed with an intricate ornament painted in gold, same as the edges of the base of the box.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The exterior of the box is painted with black lacquer while the interior is completed with red lacquer. The lid is hinged from the top of the casket, and the box rests on two platforms.
Under the composition on the lid the artist wrote her name and the village of Palekh.
